Bill specializes as a tactician and helmsman in one-design sailboats in the 20-50 foot range, and is an expert in both fleet and match racing. He has won twelve world championships. Three helming in the Etchells. And the rest as tactician: three World Match Race Tour overall wins, two in the Melges 24, one in the Farr 40, and one in the Melges 20. In 2011 he received the US Rolex Yachtsman of the Year. Winning the 81 boats Etchells Worlds at home in San Diego, with his now wife Mandi Hardesty, is the regatta he is most proud of.
